Alright, so this is Apple’s newest and greatest iPhone 15. Furthermore, this phone doesn’t contain anything new or different from other phones.Iphone 15 Nevertheless, it remains a nice phone. It is not necessary to be a very new phone in order to be a terrific, nice phone.
Actually, that’s exactly what Apple Iphone 15 is doing with this phone. The more I use this phone, the more I comprehend Apple’s textbook, late mover advantage strategy. They will take something that we have already seen and make it Apple-style.Now, how would I describe this new phone’s appearance? I’m not sure why, but it made me think of the 14.
“All new” design
What is Apple’s response? The design of the iPhone 15 is stunning and innovative.
Fresh?
Fresh? Really? Alright, so I don’t know what’s new, but this phone does look and feel like it belongs to the previous version. The way it feels in the hand, though, is at least a little different.
They’ve done a great job softening the corners here, as I mentioned in the evaluation of the 15 Pro.
It still has metal rails and a boxy appearance, but it is more comfortable to handle because the corners are softened rather than pointed.
Additionally, I adore that this is the first non-Pro iPhone with a satin back and glass.
This back here resembles a lovely piece of frosted glass.Getting this single piece of glass on the back to be two different colors and two different thicknesses, among other things, must be really difficult, and I can get that.
However, the colors are pretty bad.People were claiming that the color grading must be incorrect because the most current video appears white rather than blue. No, this blue phone hardly seems blue at all in practically every kind of lighting. In any case, one may claim that the most fingerprint-resistant iPhone models in recent memory are those made of aluminum and light hues. The speakers, mute switch, side buttons, and lack of an action button are all present in this phone.
To be honest, it’s likely that a cover for an iPhone 14 will fit an iPhone 15.
Although the screen around the front of this iPhone is new, it is not brand-new. The dynamic island is now accessible to non-Pro iPhones this year, allowing anyone to execute the punch cutout the Apple way. The notch is therefore no longer available, however it might return with a future iPhone SE. Over the past year, app developers have also been increasingly involved in beneficial ways. My current favorites are the apps for my weather, Uber, and airlines that provide me the most recent flight information.
Let’s get real about 60Hz
However, as we’re up here discussing the phone’s screen, it’s also brighter and can now reach 2,000 knits, which looks fantastic outside. Additionally, this $800 phone still has a 60 hertz display in 2023.I find this to be quite fascinating. It’s really strange. On the one hand, this phone is quite acceptable for the majority of buyers.
It is a new baseline iPhone, thus it literally doesn’t have. Have you spoken to anyone who purchases a new baseline iPhone? They genuinely don’t give a damn.
You could ask them now how many frames per second their phone is, and they wouldn’t know; it doesn’t matter; it’s not something they pay attention to. Therefore, it is completely irrelevant as long as it functions and everything goes as smoothly as it did the year before and the year before.I have really given individuals a 120 Hz phone and a 60 Hz phone, and they are unable to tell the difference, even when they are placed side by side. Or, if they do, they’d be perfectly content to miss it. It’s just like, “Oh, that’s a subtle thing that seems kind of neat.” Therefore, it’s perfectly acceptable with this phone’s target market. However, on the other
The richest technology company in the world, Apple, on the other hand, is always making minor, inconspicuous improvements that the typical person would never notice. For instance, when these typical iPhones switched from LCD to OLED screens, do you think any of these people actually noticed?
Or how about using this A16 Bionic instead of the A15 Bionic from last year? Do you think this is where the discrepancies are evident? Or how about when the iPhone had just been upgraded to 5G and most folks didn’t care? For instance, modern smartphones focus on gradual, minor adjustments.
In addition, I would argue that a greater refresh rate is more noticeable to more people than some of those other characteristics. For instance, if you were to send me an unmarked iPhone with an A15 Bionic today, I think it would take me a long time to recognize the real differences between it and an A16 Bionic. Therefore, isn’t the new Moto G priced at $170 or something comparable when you take into account that it’s really simple, inexpensive, and reasonable to get at least a 90 hertz phone?
Compared to this iPhone, which has a 720P screen that is as bright as a box of crayons, it must be a horrible-looking screen. However, Motorola decided to include it in the phone because they believed that enough customers would notice and experience the smoothness difference and higher degree of perceived performance.
Apple could easily make this display even 90 hertz, therefore I think it’s ridiculous that they won’t repair it just because they’ve branded it as “Pro.” They’re promoting the Pro phones. In my opinion, it serves as a tool to further distinguish the Pro iPhones from the non-Pro iPhones, and they are happy to do so, even if it makes the iPhone 15 the most expensive phone ever.
Performance and Heat/Battery
Employ a 60 Hz screen. The iPhone Pro phones this year also get the new A17 Pro chip, even if the iPhone 15 still uses the A16 Bionic from the 14 Pro from the previous year. What’s most exciting is the Pro chip’s name, which suggests that it won’t be in the base model phone next year. The A16 bionic performs admirably for a phone at this price, managing daily chores, playing games, and navigating iOS at 60 hertz. These phones have generally had good battery life, so that’s the one area where you can clearly argue for 60 hertz, even with all of the problems that have been mentioned. The power and heat problems with these iPhones that some users, including me, have been discussing have now been officially resolved by Apple. You may or may not have noticed.
It appears that a number of third-party apps, including Instagram, were experiencing problems as well; these should also receive upgrades, and an iOS update is imminent.
The battery of my 15 has, nevertheless, often outlasted that of the 15 Pro. Additionally encouraging is the fact that the 15 Plus appears to have the longest battery life of any iPhone. Thus, the combination of 60 hertz screens with the outdated A16 Bionic,
USB-C
are prolonging your battery’s life. Furthermore, USB-C is not new, but it is here with all of its benefits, including the ability to connect to additional devices like keyboards and monitors and charge everything with a single connection. As few people buy the Pro iPhone to need fast data transfer—unless they’re using its photography features—you can probably ignore the fact that the older processor lacks a USB 3 controller, which means that USB 3 data speeds are still subpar.
They also succeeded in implementing Apple’s approach.I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but they printed the model number inside the connector in addition to matching the color of the phone to the inside of the USB-C port. Apple would therefore rather keep this a secret.
Things that are actually new
In as secret a way as possible. I should really give them some credit because some of the iPhone 15’s cutting-edge software features are actually new. Features like an ultra-wideband chip were included to make it simpler to find your phone with an Apple Watch or to be found on Find My Friends.
They also applied these clever audio and video effects at the operating system level, which means that any program can use them. It works shockingly well—very, very well—when you turn on background noise reduction during a video conversation, Google Meet, Zoom, phone chat, or any other type of communication. If I were on a phone call with myself in a room with the air conditioner, dishwasher, and sink running next to me—exactly next to the microphone—this is how it would sound.
The microphone does a far better job of recognizing my voice when I switch it from Standard mode to Voice Isolation mode, even though all the same sounds are still there. It’s quite clever and very different. The final addition of an 80% battery charge limiter in the settings, as well as the newly introduced interactive widgets and offline regions to Apple Maps, are some of the less recent updates. The link behind the “like” button will allow you to view all of this information. To watch the whole video on the iOS 17 update, you should definitely click the “like” button after watching this one. One of the most widely used features I covered in that video, I will say, is standby mode.
Additionally, the Pro iPhone’s LTPO display, which runs at one Hertz, allows the screen to stay on when you turn it sideways while it’s charging.
On the LTPO-equipped non-Pro iPhone, however, it is effectively fixed at either 30 or 60 hertz; it never drops to one hertz.Similar to an Apple Watch charger, Apple simply chooses to turn off the screen after a little period of time, which appears to defeat the purpose of this feature.
You then have to nudge the table or bump the stand to get it to wake up.Between the iPhone Pro and non-Pro models, there is only one noteworthy difference.
Underrated camera upgrade
But last but not least, these new cameras are actually weird, but in a good way. So iPhone 15 has been upgraded to a new set of 12 megapixel ultra wide and the new 48 megapixel main camera. It’s not the same sensor as the Pro, it’s actually slightly smaller, but it has a larger max aperture of F1.6 to make up for it.
And then, it’s also doing a combo of binning and detailed transfer to give you
this new 24 megapixel photo as a result by default. Now, if you were paying attention before, you’ll remember that this new iPhone has the exact same chip as last year’s Pro iPhone.Same processing cores, same image signal processor, same neural engine, same A16 Bionic, same everything. So why is this new 24 megapixel default only coming to the newest iPhone 15 and not last year’s Pro? Like, I still have last year’s Pro phone and I’ve updated it to the latest software and it does not get this feature, it’s still shooting 12 megapixels.
So honestly now my base iPhone 15’s non-zoomed in photos are actually looking a little better, a little more detailed than last year’s Pro phones. And then, there’s the new auto-Portrait Mode detection feature, which is pretty sweet. Basically you don’t have to switch to Portrait Mode to take a photo that captures all of the depth information that allows you to turn it into a Portrait Mode photo later. So as long as you’re pointing the camera at a human subject or a cat or a dog as identified by the neural engine, or if you tap to focus, you automatically get this little F at the bottom corner of the screen, which means it’s capturing the data needed for Portrait Mode, just in case.
And so, then, later, if you decide, eh, I actually do want this to be a Portrait Mode shot, you go into your gallery and just make it a Portrait Mode photo, that you can even then go in and edit and play with. Some people have been describing it
as being able to change the focus point later. It’s not exactly doing that,
you can’t like save something that was out of focus by bringing it back.
But basically, for the classic iPhone shot where it kind of looks like everything is in focus, then, yeah, you can play with Portrait Mode
and get really good results. Last year’s Pro iPhone has the same chip,
also has a 48 megapixel main camera and has the same neural engine,
doesn’t get this feature, for some reason. Also kind of weird.
Verdict
As you can see, we always make a lot of assumptions, when writing these reviews about what, we think the typical iPhone user is like, what they actually care about. what they will notice, and what they will appreciate about a new one. Even though it doesn’t appear all that different and hasn’t got many new features. I do believe they’ve packed enough small improvements into this phone to make it feel considerably better. In my opinion, if you currently own an iPhone 14—even if it’s a 13—you don’t need to upgrade.
“Oh, should I just get the older, like last year’s iPhone to save some money?”
is a question I get from friends every year. if you wish to upgrade to a new iPhone but still have an outdated phone.Actually, I would suggest purchasing the iPhone 15 instead.
Overall, it’s a better phone with USB compatibility and plenty more functions. For instance, you buy a base iPhone because it works, is comfortable, and will be recognizable for many years to come, not because it’s the newest technology. Furthermore, because we recently switched to USB type C, I wouldn’t suggest buying a Lightning iPhone if you plan to use it for the near future. Just grab the new one, the boring new iPhone that doesn’t offer anything particularly unique. Warm regards!
